CBT is a therapy that helps you to change how you think and behave. CBT encourages you to talk and to understand how you think about yourself and how this will often support the problems that you have. The collaborative approach that is used will allow us to develop a treatment plan which will form the foundation for therapy enabling you to overcome unhelpful thinking and behaviours as well as difficult feelings. This will usually help you feel significantly better about your life.
CBT usually involves weekly sessions. The number of sessions varies greatly depending on what you want to achieve or the nature of your problems.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR),
I also offer EMDR therapy. This is also a NICE recommended treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Trauma. There is growing evidence that EMDR can also be helpful for a number of other problems that have developed following an emotional disturbance such as the difficulties people can experience following a significant loss. It is also effective for many other problems which started as a result of an emotional disturbance.
EMDR has been shown to make distressing memories feel less intense. EMDR can be used to help you deal with traumatic memories, such as those that come from accidents, injuries, sexual, physical or emotional abuse.
